A VERY WARM WELCOME!
We are one of the original wharves on the longest manmade waterway in Britain, The Leeds to Liverpool Canal.
The Way We Were
Opened in 1801, Mile Wharf, as it was then locally known, was instrumental in creating the industrial boom that took place in the North, ultimately making Burnley one of the world’s largest producers of cotton cloth in the mid 1860s.
Established in 1784, our heritage buildings were a central point for the Industrial Revolution once the Burnley Canal became fully operational in 1810.
With multiple functions, these buildings provided work spaces for the much needed blacksmiths, forgers, boat builders, farriers and later carpenters. Now they are ready to serve the community once again as a hub for leisure activity, wellbeing and enjoyment.
A HUB FOR ENTERTAINMENT, CELEBRATIONS & LEISURE ACTIVITY
A New Lease of Life
These Grade II listed buildings have been restored in an incredible regeneration project thanks to the generosity of The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the European Regional Development Fund. In conjunction with the Canal & River Trust this beautiful space is here to support the local economy, biodiversity, provide a multi faceted hub for the community and create employment in hospitality.
Saved from dereliction, the three buildings on the site comprising The Forge, The Turnbridge Guesthouse and The Warehouse will once again become vibrant, animated and central to community life in Burnley!
With its canal-side café, stunning bar and rustically-designed restaurant, the historic buildings are now home to mouthwatering food & drink, staged entertainment and provide space for wedding ceremonies, celebrations, special occasion gatherings and business events alike.
It’s All About Time
Inside, the beautifully restored original workmanship is complemented by sophisticated interior design making the whole space a delight to spend time in. Outside, the canal moorings and natural spaces will be wonderful places for families and groups to relax, enjoy time together and experience the nature of the waterside.
Our guest house, once the home to the engineer for the original ‘turn bridge’ over the canal, provides superb accommodation to visitors, conference guests and brides-to-be.
Opening in July 2021, Finsley Gate Wharf will undoubtedly become an important, historic destination, breathing new life back into such a pivotal location for the modern generation and generations to come! We cannot wait! Not long now…
Burnley can once again be proud of its canal-side heritage. Come and join us! We’ve been expecting you…
